How to build your Esports Team

School Esports is quickly becoming the next big activity for middle and high school students. Whether you have students who are already invested in a game, or just have students who want an activity that fits their busy schedule, Esports can provide a safe environment that provides competition, comradery, and social skills.

If you're here, you want to know how to get started. Here are some simple steps to help you out:

Step 1 - Pick your League and Games

Find out what games your students want to play as an Esport. Consult with your local Esports leagues to see which games are available, and use them to decide from.

SWWaG is one of many available Esports Leagues. We list our games on this website and will consider other games for future seasons. But other leagues are available as well, such as WIAA, WSSEA, HSEL, and MSEL. See what games they host as well.

Step 2 - Build Your Team

You will need gaming devices in order to play. This will depend on the game that you have chosen. Most Esports titles are played either on PC or on the Nintendo Switch.

PC Esports games are generally playable with low-end budget computers. Even used PCs are often able to play the most recent Esports titles. You might already have computers good enough to get started today. Looking for more? Search online for "Budget Gaming PC Guide" and you will find ways to buy or build amazing gaming computers for less than $300 each. Most Esports games for PC are free.

If the game you want to play requires a console, you will need to invest in one of those. Check official refurbished sites for deals on consoles, like Nintendo's own refurbished store. Also, note the cost of the games themselves, and if there is a fee to play the games online.

Step 3 - Play to Win

You have your games, you have your systems... Now you must compete! Set up a practice schedule with your players so you can compete at your highest level. Join a Tournament Season, and when it's game time, Join your match and follow the agreed rules. Win or lose, you're making it happen!
